I probably have carpal tunnel. My left wrist is pretty much shot to hell and useless. My internet diagnosis also tells me that it may be tendonitis.
I tried to write a report of 2008 without a survey but the survey made it 100 times less sappy so I'll go with that. I've been a sentimental creep lately. I hope this isn't the last time in my life where absolutely everything feels possible.
What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Moved to a new country for 6 months.
Was 2008 a good year for you?
Yeah!
What was your favorite moment of the year?
Reading a Joyce Carol Oates book in a secret upstairs room of a bookshop in Paris.
What was your least favorite moment of the year?
How did you ring in 2008?
I was on a plane to England, alone.
Who were you with?
The girl sitting next to me was watching episodes of Angel on her laptop.
Where will you be when 2008 ends?
I was in Detroit at the Magic Stick. They did the countdown 5 minutes early and I was in the bathroom and missed it.
Who will you be with when 2008 ends?
Andy, Kit and Chelsea.
Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I can't remember my new years resolutions last year. I think they were just to be great and not blow it. I didn't write anything down because 2007 ended in a whirlwind.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No
Did anyone close to you die?
No
Which countries did you visit?
England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France.
What states did you visit?
NONE!
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A job that lets me support myself in a bustling and interesting city. Also: a dog.
What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 1st, my first day in a new country when I didn't leave my room at all.
And election day I guess.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Living in London. Also I'm really proud of myself for getting everything done during finals this year.
What was your biggest failure?
I wish I networked more, and made more art that I don't hate.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got really sick Halloween weekend because I worked a million hours.
What was the best thing you bought?
A EuRail pass. And that piece of pizza in the Florence train station. MMMMM.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Chelsea Kirchoff.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
"Appalled and depressed" is a bit dramatic. Irritated and disappointed.
Where did most of your money go?
Food and travel.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Train adventure. The Michael Jackson impersonator in Barcelona. Seeing my friends and family when I came back to America. Abbey the puppy.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. Thinner or fatter? Fatter.
iii. Richer or poorer? POOR.
FAT AND POOR BUT STILL HAPPY. That's good I guess.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
More art, more writing.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
internet tv.
How will you be spending Christmas?
Last family christmas.
Did you fall in love in 2008?
Nope.
If so, do you regret it?
I don't see how I would.
Did you break up with anyone in 2008?
Nose guy. But by "break up with", I mean I drunk hung up on him when I didn't want to ride the bus for an hour to have bad sex at his mom's house on night of the tube riots, and he never called back and I never called back.
I wish it was always that easy.
How many one-night stands?
None
How many people did you sleep with in 2008?
I'm a LADY.
Who was your best drinking buddy?

Yeah. I'm trying to stop the hate though. New Years resolution.
What was your favorite TV program?
It's Always Sunny and TrueBlood.
What was the best book you read?
In Persuasion Nation by George Saunders, which was genius and hilarious and perfect.
and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, which was the only book I read this year that really shattered me. You know that feeling when you read the last page of a book and everything goes still and quiet and your chest hurts because your heart actually breaks because your relationship with the book, i.e. reading it, is over.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Maurice and Bourgeois
What songs will always remind you of 2008?

What did you want and not get?
A decent job.
What was your favorite film of this year?
Muppet Treasure Island.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21. In London. We had a pizza picnic on Camberwell Green, drank Magners, and then went to a bunch of art school end of the year shows around Brick Lane. It was great. I never would have even imagined that would be how I turned 21.
What was your most embarrassing moment of 2008?
I embarrassed myself a lot like always, but I can't think of a keystone moment.
If you could go back in time to any moment of 2008 and change something, what would it be?
I wouldn't change anything specifically, because I like how I came out of it. But in the future, I'm going to take advantage of more opportunities, take more care in relationships, and take less drugs.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More money. That sounds stupid.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
An effort.
What kept you sane?
